Self-Taping: An Essential Tool for the On-Camera Actor
Presenter: Casey E Lewis

It is vital that actors pursuing on-camera work know how to submit a self-taped audition. With the accessibility of equipment, user friendly technology and the fast pace of the industry actors are frequently asked to submit a recording of their initial audition, and callback too sometimes, to be considered for film and TV work. And, because technology makes the world a lot smaller, self-tapes are especially useful when an actor is in a different location than those making the creative decisions.

As prevalent as the practice is, self-tape equipment and set-up options vary, and are determined by the actor’s budget and what they already have available. There is no one way to do it. But there are better ways.

In this Educational Forum actors will gain an understanding of the basics of a self-tape set-up, along with best practices to follow when submitting themselves for projects. Key needs will be addressed during the presentation, while equipment examples and placement are covered in a brief walk through of a set-up, with time remaining for questions.
